In My Shoes is a photography and storytelling exhibition created by youth from Big Thought programs such as Creative Solutions, Artivism, and DaVerse Lounge. I was privileged to be a photography mentor for this project last year while I was working at Big Thought, and excited to return again in its second iteration.
We reunited during winter break to record our personal stories and capture images that serve as entry points into our experiences. One of the most important skills that we practice in our programming is empathy, and throughout your engagement with this exhibition, we invite you to practice empathy with us by taking a walk in our shoes, trying to experience our perspectives, and building community through understanding. It is our hope that through increased understanding, we can move people to action around the issues that matter most to us.” (Group Artist Statement)
The exhibition will feature photography and original stories recorded by the young artists. Gallery opening will be from 5pm – 7pm in the Big Thought lobby on Wednesday, January 23rd. If you are in the Dallas area, please stop by this event.
